It’s no secret that wine tasting can sometimes come with a side of snobbery, but in Lake County, California, we believe that good wine goes best with good vibes. At the end of the day, wine grapes are a crop, and wine is an agricultural product. Of course, there’s a little science and a lot of passion behind it, but we want everyone to feel welcome when they walk into one of our tasting rooms.

Don’t be shy – get to know a different side of California Wine Country. We’ll go first. Here’s a little more about us.

About Lake County Wines

We’re part of the North Coast AVA, a growing region that includes Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties, and we have seven distinct appellations within Lake County. Like our neighbors, we’ve been at it for a while now. Our first vineyards were planted in 1870 and re-emerged from prohibition in the 1960s.

Janet Fletcher’s book, Wine Country Table calls Lake County “where sauvignon blanc shines,” touting the varietal’s approachable price point and crisp acidity. The volcanic soils from Mt Konocti also play a big role in the unique characteristics of wines like cabernet, and our sub-appellations each reflect a unique microclimate and elevation profile.

What this equates to is a sense of place that’s all our own. And though we like to fly under the radar, our wines are getting attention from Wine Enthusiast and The San Francisco Chronicle. Many consider Lake County one of the next big growing regions to watch. Don’t worry though, we won’t let it go to our heads.
Whether you’re a wine enthusiast looking to discover the next big thing, or a casual drinker in search of a low key getaway with family and friends, we invite you to explore Lake County during California Wine Month, no limo required.
